WhatsApp 2.16.272 beta version now offers users with exciting new features including gif support for which users have been waiting for a while, mentions support is also there where users can mention a person in the groups just like we tag on Facebook, twitter, etc. Apart from this, users now can take selfies and screen will automatically light up for brighter selfies. Contacts with whom you chat frequently will be shown at the top which is also currently being shown I believe.
The app has not been made available to the users either via play store or official Whatsapp website due to the fact that it is currently in beta stage. The app is subjected to be made available shortly officially however if you would like to give it a try before the actual release then you can do that.
Whatsapp, the most widely used instant messaging app is facing competition with Viber, Telegram and other apps however it is still at the top considering various aspects. While other IM apps already introduced such features long ago including video chat, Whatsapp is incorporating on regular intervals but at a slower place. The simplicity of this app is what attracts the users.
Recently Whatsapp also asked the users to share their data with Facebook and we hope that you didn’t accept that policy.
With such services, it is expected that users will start spending more time on this app thus increasing app usage.
Below listed are the latest features introduced in this beta app:
- Front screen brightness to light up dull selfies, this will help users having phone without front flash. I tried testing this however looks like it is not yet made available in this beta version. Please test and confirm once just in case.
- gif support, this was added to Facebook as well few months back and people share funny GIFs with their friends.
- Mentions support – Users can now mention their friends/family in the group just like we tag people in groups. This works the same as seen on Facebook, Twitter, etc. You just need to place ‘@’ symbol in front of the name.
Whatsapp officials are also working on providing video call support to the app and it is currently under development only.
