This is my personal experience when i went to the service center present in Chandigarh region to upgrade my Canvas 2 OS from ICS 4.0.4 to Jelly Bean 4.1.1. FYI we have also shared a method on our site through which you can upgrade its OS manually. I heard people complaining that service center people are asking for money to upgrade Android OS of Micromax phones so i went to the service center and checked myself.
Micromax Canvas 2 runs on 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich OS by default. Currently only 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update is available. Yesterday i got some time free and i went to the service center and asked them to upgrade its Android OS.
They said all your data will get deleted. i knew about that so i took a backup of all my data which was present in phone’s memory. The contacts, messages, etc. For this purpose i used an app called Super Backup. I took the backup of my 400 contacts and approx 5000 messages through this app and stored them in the External SD card.
They took my phone and gave my battery, SIM cards and Micro SD card back and withing 10 minutes the service center guy came to me and handed over the phone to me. I switched it ON and saw the phone with a new Welcome screen first.
I installed the Super Backup app as its apk file (backup) was present in SD card and restored all my SMS and contacts within few minutes. With Super Backup app you can take backup of apps, contacts, messages, etc.
You’ll notice few changes in it – like the Music player look has been changed now (the earlier one was good), an option to reboot the phone, new UI, Notification bar look revamped, etc.
Do Micromax Service Center Charge For Android Upgrades?
The Answer is a NO! They don’t charge even a single penny for Android Upgrade. I’ve seen people commenting on my site that the service center guys are asking for Rs100 for this work. This is absolutely wrong!
